Schenectady - Dr. Robert A. Breault passed away on Oct.31 after a brief illness with his loving family by his side. He was 90 years old.

He was born on March 9, 1923 in Cohoes, New York the son of Dr. Anathol and Grace Breault. He attended Christian Brothers Academy and then Rensselear Polytechnic Institute. He enlisted in the US Army during the Second World War and was a 1947 graduate of The Albany Medical College of Albany Medical Center and served his internship at Ellis Hospital. He trained in surgery at Ellis Hospital and in San Antonio, Texas where he served as Chief, Section of Surgery at Lackland Air Force Base Hospital during the Korean War from 1949 until 1953.

Robert entered the private practice of general surgery in 1953 in the Schenectady area, retiring in 1985. During his professional career he served as the Chief of Surgery and the Director of the General Surgical Residency Program at Ellis Hospital. He was also the Chief of Staff of the Ellis Medical Dental Staff and was an attending surgeon at Ellis and St. Clare's Hospitals along with being a consultant to Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital. He also served as a Trustee on the Ellis Board of Directors for many years and was a founding member and served on the Board of The Medical Liability Mutual Insurance Company.

He was a Diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners, the American Board of Surgery and the Surgical Section, Pan American Surgical Society. He was also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, American College of Gastroenterology, the American Society of Abdominal Surgery and a member of the Medical Society of Schenectady County and the New York State Medical Society.

Bob's true passion outside of the medical field included hunting and fishing, especially in his beloved Adirondacks where he maintained a picturesque cabin. On weekends he could always be found pursuing his outdoor interests with a great passion among the high peaks of the north country especially when accompanied by his grandchildren whom he loved dearly.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jeanne Fitzgerald Breault, his son Dr. Michael Breault and his wife Linda, his daughter Patricia Breault Fetcho, RN and her husband, Ronald Fetcho. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, David Breault of Delmar, Nicholas Breault of New York City, Elizabeth Fetcho Frear and her husband, Matthew Frear of Glenville and Sarah Fetcho Kalinkewicz and her husband, Justin Kalinkewicz of Glenville. He is also survived by his brother, Dr. Richard Breault and his wife Marlene along with their three children. The family would also like to thank the excellent caregivers that attended to Robert in his final days including Dr. John Nolan and Cardiology Associates, Dr. Benoit Tonneau and Capital Care Associates and Dr. George Giokas along with Community Hospice of Schenectady, New York.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at 10 AM at St. John the Evangelist Church. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be private for family.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that any contributions made in Robert's name be given to The Foundation For Ellis Medicine or The Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation.
