Donald R. Haines Sr. 85 of Niskayuna died suddenly on Saturday, January 26, 2013 after being stricken at his son's home in Scotia from a Cardiac Arrest. Donald was born on February 18, 1927 in Pottstown, PA and was the son of the late Jerome and Estella Knauer Haines.

Donald served in the United States Navy from 1945 to 1949 as an Aviation Electronics Technician First Class. After proudly serving he graduated from Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA in 1952. After completing his degree he worked at General Steel in Philadelphia, PA prior to moving to Niskayuna. He worked as a Metallurgical Engineer for General Electric before retiring in 1986 after 22 years of service. After his retirement he enjoyed Friday lunches with his former colleagues.

Donald was a member of Faith United Methodist Church which was from the merger of Calvary and Trinity United Methodist Churches. Over the years he served proudly as a member of the Finance Committee, Administrative Board and was a long time Treasurer of the Church.

Donald was predeceased by his loving wife Esther R. Haines of 60 years whom he missed dearly with sadness every day since her sudden death on May 3, 2012. He is survived by 3 sons, Rev. Franklin J. Haines (Angela) of Center Point, IN, Donald R. Haines Jr. (Tracey) of Scotia, and Christopher W. Haines (Melissa) of Ballston Spa.; grandchildren, Kristine Haines, Colin Haines (Connie) and Hannah Haines; great grandchildren, Trinity Haines, Elizabeth Horton, Katelyn Haines and Gavin Haines, brother-in-law, Robert Rupert Sr. (Ruth) of Pottstown, PA; nephews, Robert Rupert Jr. and Raymond Rupert; dearest friends, Paul Nagele and Rita Petersen.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 1 PM at Faith United Methodist Church, corner of Eastern and Brandywine Avenues. A calling hour will be held from 12 PM – 1 PM at the church prior to the service, followed by a Military Service at the Niskayuna Reformed Church Cemetery.
