David Erwin Bain - of Wellington Way, Niskayuna, passed away at the age of 79, on September 24, 2012.

David is survived by his adoring wife of 57 years, Audrey Louise Hohman Bain, his two children Hillary Bain Ferrazzi of Natick, Massachusetts and Andrew Wallace Bain of Lake Forest, California, and three grand children, Katherine Porter Bain and Thompson Cowles Bain of Lake Forest, California, and Anna Elisabeth Ferrazzi of Natick, Massachusetts.

David was born on December 7, 1932 in Summit, New Jersey. He graduated from The Hill School, Pottstown, PA in 1950, and received a BSME from The Pennsylvania State University in 1954. He served in the United States Navy from 1954-1956 as Lieutenant (jg).

He was employed by General Electric for 39 years. He started with rotating assignments while on the Advanced Engineering Program in 1956. He spent 10 years with the Missile and Space Division in Philadelphia, PA. He moved to Schenectady, NY in 1970 to join Industrial Sales and held various management positions with Gas Turbine and Power Systems, until his retirement in 1995.

David was a member of First Reformed Church of Schenectady where he served as Elder and Deacon. He was a Literacy Volunteer for speakers of English. David was a general aviation enthusiast with commercial pilot and flight instructor certificates. He was a member of Condair Flyers, a local flying club, since 1971, serving as its vice-president and president. He was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA).

David enjoyed teaching flying and flying himself, boating with his son-in-law Joseph Patrick Ferrazzi in the boat they owned together, photography, following the trend from film cameras to digital cameras, reading, and spending time on Cape Cod in Chatham at his family summer home.

A memorial service will be Monday, December 10, 2012 at 1:00 PM at the First Reformed Church of Schenectady, 8 North Church Street.
